After 32 years, the office suite for Windows will get a major brand update.

“In the coming months, Office.com, the Office mobile app, and the Office app for Windows will become the Microsoft 365 app, with a new icon, a new look, and even more features.” according to the website’s FAQ page.

Microsoft 365, also known as Microsoft Office, is a range of productivity and office applications that were created by Microsoft. 

Introduced by Bill Gates in 1988, Microsoft Office provides both productivity and cloud-based services for Windows or Microsoft users. Microsoft 365 includes the brand’s biggest services such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, but also provides online services such as OneDrive and Microsoft Teams.

Though Microsoft Office was first introduced in the late 1980s, Office 365 was introduced to the public in 2010. It was first introduced as a subscription-based service for corporations but was later made available for the Microsoft Office suite, releasing the service as Office 2013. Microsoft then decided to combine both Office 365 and Windows 10 in 2017, calling it Microsoft 365. Microsoft 365 was made available to multiple operating systems, including Android, iOS, Windows, and macOS.

Several key features were included for consumers in the rebranding to Microsoft 365’s in 2020, including 1TB storage in OneDrive, about 60 minutes of calls per month on Skype, and adding access to Microsoft Teams, a collaboration platform.
