About de Young Museum
Description
The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco (FAMSF) comprises two iconic institutions: the de Young Museum and the Legion of Honor. Located in Golden Gate Park and Lincoln Park respectively, these museums represent the largest public arts institution in San Francisco and rank among the largest art museums in the United States.
The de Young, established in 1895, features a diverse collection spanning American art from the 17th century to contemporary works, alongside textile arts, African and Oceanic art, and more. Conversely, the Legion of Honor, opened in 1924, specializes in European painting, sculpture, decorative arts, and ancient artifacts.
FAMSF's mission is to connect visitors with both local and global art, fostering knowledge and creativity. The museums emphasize inclusivity and community engagement, ensuring a rich cultural experience for all. Open Tuesday to Sunday from 9:30 am to 5:15 pm, FAMSF invites everyone to explore its world-class collections and engaging exhibitions.
