Freedom Forum

The Freedom Forum, established on July 4, 1991, is a nonpartisan 501(c)(3) foundation dedicated to promoting First Amendment freedoms for all Americans. Founded by Al Neuharth, the organization educates and inspires individuals to recognize and exercise their rights to free expression and press. Their initiatives include the annual “Where America Stands” survey, which gauges public attitudes toward First Amendment rights, and the vibrant 1A Fest, celebrating essential freedoms through music, comedy, and engaging discussions.

The Freedom Forum also hosts the Free Expression Awards, recognizing those who champion free speech across various fields, as well as offering scholarships through the Al Neuharth Free Spirit and Journalism Conference. They support new journalists via mentorship programs focused on diversity. Additionally, the organization features Today's Front Pages, an online exhibit showcasing global media's role in a free society. Headquartered in Washington, D.C., the Freedom Forum collaborates with several educational institutions to foster media literacy and First Amendment awareness nationwide.
