Wassenaar Arrangement

The Wassenaar Arrangement is a multilateral export control regime aimed at enhancing regional and international security and stability. Established in 1994, it involves 42 Participating States, including countries from North America, Europe, Asia, and beyond. The Arrangement promotes transparency and responsibility in the transfer of conventional arms and dual-use goods and technologies, effectively preventing destabilizing accumulations that could lead to military enhancements or terrorism.

Participating States adhere to stringent export controls based on comprehensive control lists, including the Munitions List and the List of Dual-Use Goods and Technologies. These lists encompass a wide range of items, such as military hardware, aerospace systems, and sensitive technology.

The Wassenaar Arrangement serves as a framework for cooperation among states, facilitating the exchange of information and best practices related to export controls. Regular meetings held in Vienna enable collaborative efforts to address global security challenges and reinforce compliance with agreements. Through these measures, the Wassenaar Arrangement strives to ensure responsible trade practices while mitigating risks associated with arms proliferation and dual-use technologies.
